“There ought to be a book written about me,
that there ought!”
— Alice

The English Department and the Dean’s Service of the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation of the University of Mons (Belgium) are delighted to invite proposals for their first joint conference on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to be held in April 2017.

FAST FACTS
What? | Say What You Mean, and Mean What You Say (SWYM-MWYS) Conference on Alice in Wonderland
When? | Deadline for submissions: November 1st, 2016 | Conference: April 19-21, 2017
Where? | UMONS (Belgium)

Ever since she fell down the rabbit-hole for the first time, Alice has never ceased to amaze, puzzle and challenge us. The SWYM-MWYS Conference seeks to explore the ins and outs of her adventures, whether they be in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass or in her afterlife.

THEMATIC AREA
The conference is organised around the following main areas of enquiry:

• Lewis Carroll (life, journals, other works, etc.)
Alice in translation
• Adaptations of Alice
Alice in the (post-)postmodern era

The scientific committee will consider all abstracts, even if they are not limited to the aforementioned topics, as long as they are related to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, or Lewis Carroll. We are particularly interested in papers focusing on the translations in rarer languages and on Alice on stage.

The official languages of the conference are English and French.

ABSTRACT
Please send an abstract of 250-300 words for a 20-minute paper to alice.conference@umons.ac.be along with five keywords and a short bio (200 words max.) and affiliation in .doc format by the 1st of November 2016. Selected contributors will be notified by the 15th of December 2016.

CONTACT
If you have any questions, please feel free to use the conference address or to contact either Justine Houyaux (justine.houyaux@umons.ac.be) or Corinne Leburton (corinne.leburton@umons.ac.be).
